Papua-Neuguinea, Mittlerer Sepik, Anfang bis Mitte 20. Jh. H 85cm, B 36cm. Brettförmig aus Holz geschnitzte Silhouette eines (Wasser-?)Vogels, beidseitig ausgearbeitet, die Flügel in Form von sich deutlich abhebenden Ovalen, am Schwanz Ziermuster, die Augen in Form von Knubbeln, auf dem Kopf ein gezackter Kamm. Streifenbemalung aus gelber, roter, schwarzer und weißer Farbe. Die Holzfigur mittels geflochtener Wicklung aus Rattan (?) standartenartig auf ein Stück Bambusrohr montiert. Mit Sammlungsfoto!

Board-shaped silhouette of a (water-?) bird carved out of wood, worked on both sides, wings in the form of clearly protruding ovals, decorative patterns at the tail, the eyes in form of knobs, on top of the head a jagged comb. Decorated with stripes of yellow, red, black and white paint. The wooden figurine is mounted onto a piece of bamboo cane with a braided winding made of rattan (?). Papua New Guinea, early of mid 20th century. Intact.

Papua-Neuguinea, Mittlerer Sepik, Maprik, frühes 20. Jh. H 81cm, B 12cm. Stehende männliche Figur aus beschnitztem, hellen Holz. Vorderseite bearbeitet, Rückseite abgerundet und weitgehend undekoriert, der Kopf länglichoval und von einem breiten, kapuzenartigen Saum umgeben, die Augen in Form von kurzen, horizontalen Schlitzen angegeben, die Nase schmal und lang, der Mund als Einkerbung auf einem kleinen Wulst. Auf dem Hinterkopf die nahezu vollplastische Darstellung eines Vogels. Der Körper als langgestrecktes Spitzoval, das von den kaum strukturierten Armen umrahmt wird. Die Beine wirken plump und pfotenartig. Reste dunkler Bemalung. Mit Kopie der Publikation und Sammlungskarte!

Cult figure in form of a standing male figure made of carved, light-colored wood. The front is worked, the back is rounded and largely undecorated, the head elongated-oval and surrounded by a wide, hood-like hem, the eyes indicated in the form of short, horizontal slits, the nose narrow and long, the mouth as a cut on a small bulge. On the back of the head the representation of a bird. The body as an elongated, pointed oval framed by the barely structured arms, the legs look plump and paw-like. Remains of dark paint. Papua New Guinea, early 20th century. Mounted on base, little damages at the lower part, otherwise intact. Comes with its original collection label and copy of the publication!

Papua-Neuguinea, Mittlerer Sepik, wohl frühes 20. Jh. L 70cm, B 24cm. Geschnitztes Holz. Im Zentrum schlanker, abgerundeter Rhombus mit einem vierzackigem Stern und Kreis in dessen Mitte. Am oberen Rand lyraförmige Verzierung, unten zwei Doppelhaken, zwischen denen sich ein Gesicht in hohem Relief mit stark ausgeprägter Stirn, prägnanter Nase und sichelförmigem, erhaben gearbeitetem Mund befindet. In the center a slender, rounded rhombus with a four-pointed star and a circle in the middle. lyra-shaped decoration on the upper edge, two double hooks below rhombus, between which there is a face in high relief with a strongly pronounced forehead, a distinctive nose and a sickle-shaped mouth. Schmaler Schaft, der unten in einer zapfenförmigen Verzierung ausläuft, und breiter oberer Bereich, der den steinernen Axtkopf samt Schäftungswicklung imitiert, letztere durch zick-zack-förmige Schnitzerei angegeben. An der Astbiegung durchbrochen gearbeitete Schnitzverzierung, im oberen Bereich Streifenmuster in weißer und rötlicher Farbe. Mit originalen Sammlungsetikett und -karte!

Imitation of a stone axe made from a branch fork. Light, dark colored wood. Narrow shaft, which ends in a cone-shaped ornamentation, and a broad upper area, which imitates a stone ax head and the winding of the shaft, indicated by a zigzag carving. Openwork carved decoration on the bend of the branch, stripe pattern in white and reddish color in the upper area. Papua New Guinea, probably early 20th century. Traces of uses, intact. Hausmaske.
Papua-Neuguinea, Keram, Siedlung Wom, wohl frühes 20. Jh. L 45cm, B 13cm, T 5cm. Geschnitztes, helles Holz mit Resten dunkler Bemalung. Schmale, längliche Grundform. Der obere Stirnrand nach vorne gezogen. Die Stirn läuft in einem hohen, breiten Höcker aus, in dem zwei Bohrungen die Augen darstellen. Auf dem Wulst eine Verzierung in Form einer kleinen Schale. Kleine Höcker an den Rändern der Stirn stellen die Ohren dar. An dem Wulst schließt die Nase mit einem sehr hohen Nasenrücken an. Breite Septumsdurchbohrung. Aus dem tüllenförmigen Mund ragt ein Krokodilskopf nach unten. Seitlich des Mundes jeweils ein kleiner Höcker. Mit originaler Sammlungskarte!

The nose connects to the bulge. Wide perforation of the septum. A crocodile´s head protrudes from the spout-shaped mouth. Small bump on each side of the mouth. Große Keramikschale.
Papua-Neuguinea, Sepik, Mittlerer Ramu, um 1940. H 15cm, ø 36,5cm. Rötlicher Ton. Der Rand in Form einer großen Muschel ausgezackt, parallel zu den Zacken zwei umlaufende, plastische Wellenlinien. Mittig am Rand zu einem flachen Gesicht ausmodelliert. Das Gesichtsfeld hat die Form eines geschwungenen M, die Nase ist hakenartig, die runden Augen stehen in hohem Relief heraus, an der Stirn ein v-förmiges Ornament aus eng beieinander liegenden Punkten, eine lange Reihe solcher Punkte bzw. Einstiche zieht sich unter dem Gesicht entlang. Kleiner, flacher Stand. Mit originaler Sammlungskarte und TL-Analyse aus dem Jahre 2003!

Large ceramic bowl made reddish clay. The edge is jagged in the form of a large shell, two circumferential, three-dimensional wavy lines parallel to the prongs. Modeled into a flat face at the middle of the edge. The face has the shape of a curved M, the nose is hook-like, the round eyes protrude in high relief, on the forehead a V-shaped ornament made of closely spaced dots, a long row of such punctures runs along under the face. Small, flat stand. Papua New Guinea, about 1940. Restored but complete. Comes with its original collection card and a TL-analysis from 2003!

Papua-Neuguinea, Keram, Siedlung Wom, frühes 20. Jh. H 32cm, B 13,5cm. Geschnitztes Holz. Flache, längliche Grundform. Gesichtsdarstellung mit ausgeprägten Augenbrauenwülsten, gebohrten Augenlöchern, spitzer Nase mit Septumsdurchbohrung und gespitzten Lippen. Am oberen Rand gelocht. Reste von weißer und schwarzer Bemalung. Rückseitig gehöhlt. Mit originalen Sammlungsetikett und -karte!

Griff einer Schlitztrommel in Kopfform.
Papua-Neuguinea, Sepikmündung, Ende 19. Jh. H 31,5cm, B 16cm, T 10cm. Geschnitztes, helles Holz. Länglich-ovaler, unten spitz zulaufender Umriss des Gesichts, Haarkranz durch eine Reihe von Knubbeln angedeutet. Stirn sehr hoch, in der Mitte kräftige Wölbung. Nase flach und unten abgerundet, die Augen schmale, flache Schlitze, die Mundpartie in hohem Relief. Ein flacher Saum begrenzt den Gesichtsumriss. Darunter befindet sich eine umlaufende Zahnreihe, die wohl als Andeutung eines geöffneten Krokodilmaules interpretiert werden kann. Auf der Rückseite leicht gehöhlt. Mit Kopie der Publikation!

Handle of a slotted drum in the shape of a head made of carved, light-colored wood. Oblong-oval outline of the face tapering to a pointed chin, the fringe of hair indicated by a row of knobs. Forehead very high and strong arching. Nose flat and rounded at the bottom, the eyes narrow, flat slits, the mouth in high relief. A flat hem limits the outline of the face. Underneath is a row of teeth that can be interpreted as an indication of an open crocodile mouth. Slightly hollowed on the back. Papua New Guinea, end 19th century. With copy of the publication!

Vollplastische Keramikfigur eines Mannes.
Papua-Neuguinea, Sepik, 1. Hälfte 20. Jh. H 28cm, B 29cm, T 18cm. Rötlicher Ton. Großer Kopf mit prägnanter Nase, diese mit Septumsdurchbohrung, Augen und Mund durch Schlitze angegeben, über den Augen ein Bogen mit vier Lochungen, auf dem Kopf drei weitere Löcher, unter dem Mund ebenfalls weitere fünf Lochungen. Die Arme weit ausgestreckt, Hände jeweils mit fünf Fingern ausgeformt. Beine bogig geformt, Füße übergroß und grob ausgeformt. Der ganze Körper vorder- und rückseitig mit vollflächigem Ritzdekor verziert. Reste von roter Bemalung. Mit Kopie der TL-Analyse aus dem Jahre 1998!

Large head, concise nose with a perforated septum, eyes and mouth indicated by slits, an arch with four holes above the eyes, three more holes on top of the head, and another five holes below the mouth. Arms outstretched, both hands shaped with five fingers. Legs in form of an arch, feet oversized and roughly shaped. The whole body on the front and back with incised decoration. Remains of red paint. Papua New Guinea, 1st half 20th century. With copy of a TL-analysis from 1998!

Kamm.
Papua-Neuguinea, wohl Sepik, frühes 20. Jh. L 28,5cm, B 7cm. Gefertig aus einem Stück Bambusrohr. Oberer Aufsatz in Form eines Rhombus und eines Dreiecks, die mit leichten Schnitzereien und Einfärbung dekoriert sind, mittlerer Teil mit geschnitztem und dunkelbraun eingefärbten Banddekor, im unteren Bereich die ca. 15cm langen Zinken. Rückseitig ebenfalls beschnitzt, in oberen Bereich die Zahl "8" und der Name "MIKIAN". Mit Sammlungsetikett!

Papua-Neuguinea, Mittlerer Sepik, wohl frühes 20. Jh. H 28cm, B 9,5cm, T 12cm. Geschnitzt aus hellem, dunkel gebeiztem Holz. Hohe Stirn, Augen möglicherweise ursprünglich mit Kaurimuscheln besetzt. Lange und sich nach unten verbreiternde Nase, der Mund ein kurzer, schmaler Schlitz. Langer Hals mit geschnitztem Zierband und umgelegter, dreireihiger Halskette aus durchbohrten Kaurimuscheln. Papua-Neuguinea, Ost-Sepik, Dimiri-Region, Anfang bis Mitte 20. Jh. H 27,5cm, B 21cm. Heller, rötlicher Ton. Würdevolles Gesicht, die Augen und der vorgestülpte Mund durch schmale Schlitze angegeben, große Nase, das gesamte Gesicht mit Ritzverzierungen flächig dekoriert. Im oberen Bereich drei Fortsätze, die kreuzförmig hervortreten, der mittlere davon endet in einer kleinen vollplastischen Vogelfigur, unten breit in einem Stand auslaufend. Dreieckige abstrakte Steinmaske.
Vanuatu. H 25cm, B 12,5cm, T 6cm. Hellgrauer Stein mit weitgehend erhaltener dunkelgrauer Farbfassung. Strenge kubistische Formen, ausgeprägter im Querschnitt eckiger Wulst über den Augen, diese durch schlitzförmige Lochungen angegeben, darunter lange, im Querschnitt dreieckige Nase in der Art eines Vogelschnabels.
